Ceremony

They met at a gallery opening in the Lower East Side. The room was full of strangers, and one painting stopped them both. Dorian noticed her standing in front of it first. Vivienne noticed him noticing. Neither moved for eleven minutes.
A weekend trip to a crumbling estate upstate became the weekend that changed everything. Rain kept them indoors. They read aloud by a fireplace that barely worked, drank wine from mismatched glasses, and talked until the candles burned out.
On a winter evening in an empty chapel lit by a hundred candles, Dorian knelt on the stone floor and asked the only question that mattered. He had carried the ring for five months, waiting for a moment that felt like it belonged only to them.
And now, beneath vaulted arches and the glow of a thousand flames, surrounded by every soul who shaped their story, they will speak the words aloud. The cathedral has been waiting.
The chapel is old, but every part of the evening is reachable. Here is exactly what to expect.
The Amsterdam Avenue entrance is step-free, and a ramp to the left of the main doors reaches the chapel floor. Stewards are posted there from 3:15.
Pews are cushioned and seating is set for the whole ceremony. Chairs with backs and armrests are reserved in the rear aisle and along the wall of the Cathedral Hall. Tell any steward and they will seat you there.
Ground floor of the Cathedral Hall, through the arch to the right of the bar. No steps between it and the chapel.
Valet takes cars at the Amsterdam Avenue gate, about 60 feet (18 metres) from the chapel doors and level the whole way. The Blackstone Manor shuttle stops at the same gate.
Stone floors throughout. They're beautiful but hard, and slick in places, with a shallow lip at the chapel threshold. A flat or a broad heel will serve you far better than a stiletto.

The wedding is Saturday, but the city is ours from Friday evening. Come for what you can.
Candles down the length of one table, and the speeches that will not survive Saturday.
A nightcap by the fire for everyone who crossed a river or an ocean to be here.
Vows by candlelight in the chapel, then dinner and dancing in the Cathedral Hall.
Coffee, something warm, and a full accounting of the night before.
For those who cannot reach the chapel, the chapel will reach you. We are streaming the ceremony live, opening fifteen minutes early so you are seated before the first candle is lit.

Our DJ has a list. It is not a long list, and it is only about half good. Your votes, your ballads, and your unhinged 2 AM choices make it complete.
Your presence is gift enough. Should you wish to honour us further, we have curated a small list.
A few places we love, for the hours between the events.
No wifi, no music, no hurry. Order the strudel and stay too long.
Below street level, lit by three lamps, poured with a heavy hand.
Four narrow rooms of secondhand poetry. You will not leave on schedule.
Stone steps and a long view east. Go at dusk, when the whole city turns gold.
Red banquettes, low light, and a wine list longer than the menu.
