A promise, kept in the dark

    The Gallery

    A room full of strangers and one painting that stopped them both. Neither moved for eleven minutes.

    The Estate

    Rain kept them indoors for a weekend upstate. Wine from mismatched glasses; they talked until the candles gave out.

    The Question

    An empty chapel, a hundred candles, a stone floor. He had carried the ring five months for one quiet minute.

    The Vow

    Beneath vaulted arches, surrounded by every soul who shaped the story, they will finally say it aloud.

Everyone gets in

Here is exactly what to expect, so nothing about the evening is a surprise.

  • Step-free entry

    The garden path from the gate to the loggia is level. The jetty has a short ramp for the launch.

  • Seating

    Seated ceremony. Chairs with arms at the end of every row; tell any usher.

  • Accessible restroom

    Ground floor of the Great Hall, left of the main doors. No steps between it and the loggia.

  • Parking & drop-off

    Taxis and the villa car drop at the gate, about 40 metres (130 feet) from the loggia, level the whole way.

    Stone floors inside, gravel on the garden path. Flat, but hard and cold. A broad heel.

Nearest Airport Milan Malpensa (MXP) About ninety minutes by car. Milan Linate (LIN) is a similar drive.

      • Black tie, all black. No colour, please. Floor-length or tuxedo; the room is candlelit and unrelentingly dark. The floors are stone.
      • Villa Sereno has no car park. Leave the car at your hotel. The launch runs from Grand Hotel Tremezzo at 6:15 PM, and Serbelloni is a five-minute walk along the shore. Taxis may drop at the gate.
      • No. This is an evening for adults. We hope the night is worth the babysitter.
      • Only if your invitation names them. If you are unsure, write to us at info@thornbloomstudio.com and we will check the list.
      • The loggia is covered and open to the water, braziers lit. February on the lake is cold. Dinner is indoors, in the Great Hall. If the weather turns, everything moves inside.
      • Tell us on your RSVP. The kitchen can work around anything it knows about in advance.
      • Please do not. Our photographer will. Phones away from seven until the last vow; after that, take what you like.
